Finding The Right College For YOU

I’ve decided to start the series I have been talking about doing for about a year now. Here’s the start of a brand new college related series (:

So you’ve decided to go to college, but there’s SOOO many of them. How do you decide which one is right for you? How do you even BEGIN looking for colleges?

The first step is to decide what you want to major in. If you don’t know for sure that’s absolutely fine, most schools have an undeclared option.  If you are going to start out undeclared, decide on a few things you might be interested in.

Make sure you have paper and something to write with and begin your search. There are a lot of different places you can do a school search. If your high school requires you to use naviance there is a searching tool on there. If not, you can use collegeboard.org. Another great option is a simple Google search. One of the best things you can do is to go to a college fair but I will make a separate post just about those.

As you start coming across schools start writing down information about them on your paper. Make sure you write down the Web address for the schools website so you can go through their site at a later time.

Once you have a list of schools you want to look into grab some index cards or some more paper and have a separate paper/card for each school. Go through their website and write down some things you really like about each school so you can look back at it later. I personally used index cards and kept them in a coupon filer in alphabetical order.  If you are going to school as an undeclared major make sure you write down on the paper/card what majors they have that would interest you. If that is the case you should probably look at schools that have more than one major you are interested in incase you decide that you want to change your major.

If you have a chance talk to a representative from the college. They will give you a lot of information about the school. Before you talk to them make a list of questions you want to ask them. They will be able to answer most if not all of the questions you have.

A very important part of the process is visiting the college you want to go to. You can’t make a decision about going there until you visit. I know of a lot of people that go to the school I am at that did not visit before they came and they found out once they got here that they don’t like the school. One school that I visited I knew the moment I walked into the buildings that it wasn’t the school for me. You will get the feeling that it either is or isn’t the school for you.

Most importantly,  the earlier you start searching the less stress you will have in the process. Good luck in your searches! ❤

About music12301

I am an avid reader and writer. I love to blog about just about anything in the world that I think of. My blogs can be completely random or well thought out and planned, but never the less, they are all my own. I also love to sing and act and music is a big part of my life. I played the flute for 6 years and I also played the piccolo when it was needed in band. I recently began learning how to play the oboe and I love it. I plan to go to college for music and theater.
